What is a Noble Call?
A Noble Call is an old Irish tradition rooted in community and shared creativity. When people gather — in a home, a pub, or a public space — the first person to share a "party piece" (a song, a story, a poem, a tune, or even a joke) is then given the Noble Call: the right to call on the next person to share theirs. And so it continues, each person invited in turn, each contribution welcome — whether polished or playful, learned or spontaneous.
"At gatherings in our home, my beloved Frank would always begin the Noble Call. Friends came prepared — singers with tunes, storytellers with pages to read, and even the shy ones ready to “chance their arm.” It wasn’t about performance; it was about participation, generosity, and the joy of sharing. I invited Na Gaeil to name their Irish-language hour of theatre, poetry, and song a “Noble Call” in Frank’s memory — carrying forward this tradition of open-hearted creativity. All are welcome. Fáilte Roimh Chách." Josephine Craven, iBAM! Board President
